Kansas City Plaza Rotary’s commitment to Rotary reaches far beyond our own club.
Since the club was founded in 1986, members of the Kansas City Plaza Rotary Club have answered Rotary’s call to serve—not only in our community, but throughout the District and around the world. The five Rotarians pictured here represent an extraordinary part of that legacy. Each has served as a Rotary District Governor, providing leadership, encouragement and support to clubs throughout the District.
And that tradition continues.
Our club has now had five members serve as District Governor, with a sixth recently elected to the position—a remarkable distinction that reflects the depth of leadership, dedication and Rotary knowledge within Plaza Rotary.
Our members’ service has also extended to the highest levels of Rotary International. Two Plaza Rotary members, Larry Lunsford and Elizabeth Usovicz, have served on the Rotary International Board of Directors and on numerous Rotary International committees, helping guide an organization that connects more than a million members around the world in the shared mission of Service Above Self.
Among the District Governors pictured is Larry Lunsford, whose Rotary journey will soon take another historic step when he serves as President of Rotary International in 2027–2028.
While we are incredibly proud of these accomplishments, the titles themselves tell only part of the story. Behind each leadership role are years of volunteer service, mentoring, relationship-building, club visits, committee work, fundraising, service projects and a willingness to say “yes” when Rotary asks for more.
That spirit is part of the culture of Kansas City Plaza Rotary.
We believe Rotary leadership begins at the club level—around the tables where friendships are formed, ideas are exchanged and members discover how their individual talents can make a difference. From serving organizations here in Kansas City to leading Rotary initiatives across a district or around the world, the goal remains the same: to create meaningful change through service.
As we celebrate the five District Governors pictured here, welcome another Plaza Rotarian into District leadership, and look forward to seeing one of our own lead Rotary International, we are reminded of something that has long distinguished our club:
Plaza Rotary doesn’t simply have a history of strong leaders. We have a culture that develops people who are willing to serve.
And that may be one of our club’s greatest legacies.
